A terrible bloody deed took place in the Alsterdorf district of Hamburg on Thursday evening. At least seven people were killed in a killing spree in a “Kingdom Hall” of Jehovah’s Witnesses, as reported by “Bild” – many more were injured. According to initial investigations, the shooter could be among the dead. A special unit of the Hamburg riot police was very close at the time of the crime and quickly on site when the first emergency calls came in.
As a police spokesman reported to “ntv”, the officers had seen many dead and injured when they stormed the building. Then a shot rang out in the upper part of the room. A person was found dead there who could be the assassin. There was no evidence of multiple gunmen. The police did not assume that there were any fugitives, but nevertheless asked the population to be careful.
Which event the Jehovah’s Witnesses held last night is currently just as unclear as the motive of the perpetrator. Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher was shocked and tweeted: “The reports from Alsterdorf / Groß Borstel are shocking. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims. The emergency services are working flat out to track down the perpetrators and clarify the background.” Whether the mayor is writing about several perpetrators on purpose, or whether it is a mistake, is not known at the present time. In any case, the police are on high alert and have blocked parts of the street.
