Breathe a sigh of relief in Karlsruhe in the German state of Baden-Württemberg: after hours of hostage-taking in a pharmacy, the police were able to end the operation. The emergency services entered the building and arrested a suspect, it said on Friday evening. According to initial findings, no one was injured.
The crime scene was in the middle of downtown Karlsruhe on one of the main streets. The first emergency calls came in at 4:30 p.m. The forces cordoned off the area over a wide area.
It was not until January that an incident occurred in the affected pharmacy: a masked robber threatened an employee with a saw-like tool and fled with a liter of methadone. The suspect was arrested a few days later.
