Many have already suspected it, some have known it: Twitter is trying to influence public opinion. The new owner of the social media platform, Elon Musk (51), discovered this for the first time on Saturday night – the eXXpress reported. But this first revelation should not be the end of it, as Musk has indicated. It may just be the beginning of more revelations.
After the notorious multi-billionaire publicized disturbing blocking and deleting attempts by the former Twitter crew, which show how they wanted to sweep the scandal story surrounding the son of the current US President under the rug, curiosity was more numerous further users on Twitter awakened. One of them is Avi Yemini from the right-wing website Rebel News Australia. He promptly asked Musk via Twitter, “Can you find out what other elections were ‘edited’ by the previous Twitter regime?”
Musk’s response was not long in coming. “I’ve seen a lot of worrying tweets about the recent elections in Brazil. If these tweets are true, it’s possible that Twitter staff favored left-wing candidates.”
The response to Musk’s new December 3 tweet was tremendous, unsurprisingly among Brazilian Twitter users in particular. Some come up with serious allegations: “What we saw in Brazil was surreal: accounts of right-wing politicians who couldn’t talk about the elections and whose accounts were blocked by Twitter. You could check this out Elon Musk,” writes one. Another reports: “The fact is that hundreds of Brazilian journalists have direct contact with Twitter employees in Brazil. These journalists stated that accounts need to be verified, asked for other accounts to be blocked, etc.”
Dissenting voices also spoke out, accusing the right-wing of spreading fake news and thus justifying Twitter’s approach.
Well, one thing is certain: after the latest revelations, the public can hope for clarity more than ever. Elon Musk has announced that he will take care of it.
