Dusan Petkovic was arrested at Amsterdam Airport. He had 115 kilos of cocaine on him. Now the former Bundesliga star faces a prison sentence. According to Dutch prosecutors, Europol, in cooperation with the Serbian police, was able to bust a large drug ring. This was reported by the Serbian newspaper “Blic”. Eight people, including Petkovic, were arrested. The search for other criminal members of the organization is currently underway.
In addition, the group is said to have illegally manufactured narcotics. The investigation is proceeding swiftly. Petkovic, along with his colleagues, was responsible for transporting cocaine from South America to Rotterdam. 115 kilos were brought to the Belgian city of Arlon. The Serbian newspaper further reported that a company was involved. The company bought concrete slabs and later prepared them with packets of cocaine in a hangar in Belgium. 22 such plates could be secured. These each contained three packets of cocaine, each weighing almost a kilo.
Petkovic is currently working as a sporting director at Serbian first division club OFK Belgrade. The club has not yet commented on the incident. Petkovic played for VfL Wolfsburg and Nuremberg between 2001 and 2003. Dusan Petkovic almost was in the squad of the Serbian national team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. However, Ilja Petkovic, his father, was team boss at that time. After severe criticism, he ended up not going to the World Cup in Germany.
