“It is unbelievable but significant that the ÖVP in particular is pushing further immigration to Austria by lifting visas,” says Harald Vilimsky, outraged. The liberal delegation head in the EU Parliament also criticizes the SPÖ’s one-sided lobbying for Kosovo.
The Viennese club chairman Maximilian Krauss takes the same line. He is convinced that Vienna will have to bear an additional migration burden due to the incentive policy of SPÖ Mayor Michael Ludwig: “This visa decision will therefore also have massive negative effects on Vienna”.
The SPÖ has a completely different opinion on the freedom of travel for Kosovan nationals. The emotion goes in the direction of enthusiasm. The red head of the EU delegation, Andreas Schieder, rejoices: “Kosovo has fulfilled its part of the task. The long delay has rightly caused a lot of frustration among the population, visa liberalization is long overdue and the right step”.
