“After reaching 11 percent in October 2022, the highest level in 70 years, the inflation rate is expected to fall to 10.6 percent in November 2022. One reason is that inflationary pressures on the main drivers of inflation, household energy and fuel, are moderating”. That said Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas on Wednesday.
The union-affiliated Momentum Institute criticizes that there is a clear difference between women and men when it comes to inflation. Women are hit harder by rising prices. One reason for this is that women earn less than men on average. In the lowest income fifth of households, the proportion of women is 58 percent, in the top fifth only 47 percent. Women are therefore disproportionately represented in the lower income groups. This is where the burden of inflation-related additional costs is greatest.
