Soccer Series Champion Red Bull Salzburg enters women’s soccer. From the summer of 2023, the Bulls will field their own U16 team in “close cooperation” with the women’s first division team FC Bergheim. A U20 is to be founded the following year. This should play in the Future League. The Salzburg confirmed this in a broadcast on Thursday. Previously, the “Salzburger Nachrichten” reported about it. According to the newspaper Salzburg the commitment is worth a six-figure amount every year.
Die Salzburger decided to cooperate with the Bundesliga Eighth because they have functioning structures and experience in women’s football. “We chose this path because it is currently in Salzburg there are not enough players yet. In this way, we want to lead talented people step by step from the broad spectrum to the top and at the same time allow the project to grow on a healthy basis. We set our philosophy analogous to that of the boys in the Red–Bull-Football Academy, where we have had outstanding experiences,” explained Salzburg Sports director Christoph Freund.
In the long term, the association is pursuing high goals. “Our goal is not just to be there and do a duty. No, we also want to develop players in women’s football and be successful in the long term,” said Freund.
With runners-up Sturm Graz, Wiener Austria and SCR Altach, which works in a syndicate with FFC Vorderland, three men’s Bundesliga clubs are also represented in the women’s division in the upper house. It was only this year that Rapid followed suit, targeting the summer of 2024 as the entry point.
