“Memories from our time in Riga” is the title of the media staff of the “USS Kearsarge” on Monday’s Facebook entry. Shortly before, the US Navy’s massive landing ship, which has AV-8B Harrier VTOL attack bombers and attack helicopters as well as 4,000 soldiers and special forces on board, was near the two gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2.
A photo dated September 22 shows one of the Harrier jets on the deck of the USS Kearsarge with the Great Belt Bridge in the background. So the photo was taken only 256 kilometers away from the later crime scene – so on September 21, the US fleet association was still in the Baltic Sea region in which the two important gas pipelines with three explosions on September 26, i.e. 5 days later , have been destroyed.
Of course, it can now be pure coincidence that a US fleet association operates nearby in the Baltic Sea when the fully utilized Nord Stream 1 pipeline and the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which is still not officially operated, are interrupted with sabotage actions. However, this act of terrorism ties Western Europe even more to the liquid gas supplies from the USA – and gives all opponents of Russia an argument to force a total exit from Russian gas supplies with reference to the “unsafe gas supply”.
On the other hand, precisely this fleet presence would be particularly conspicuous and would immediately draw suspicion towards the US government – which in turn could be a kind of double bluff, as is already being discussed very emotionally on social media channels.
Of course, a third variant would also be conceivable: the Kremlin uses the presence of the US fleet for a timed attack on the pipelines in order to put pressure on the US government and divide Europe even more than before. What would speak against it: The Russian energy company Gazprom has so far still made a lot of money from deliveries to Western Europe (including Austria). So why should Moscow blow up this source of income and paralyze the pipelines in the long term, when “malfunctions” in the pipeline technology that can be corrected in the short term also put the EU states under pressure?
However, one possibility can be ruled out: that the terrorist action could have been committed by radical climate protectionists. The pipelines run south of the island of Bornholm at a depth of 70 meters, only combat divers with special equipment or special submarines could attach explosive devices and timers there. Facts that narrow the circle of possible perpetrators very much: In any case, it must have been professionals with perfect military training who can detonate three explosive charges on two pipelines almost simultaneously.
