“Everything happened at lightning speed,” reports an eyewitness in an interview with eXXpress: On Monday afternoon, six police vehicles suddenly raced towards a stopping Range Rover on Nordbahnstrasse in Vienna-Leopoldstadt and blocked the vehicle.
“There were definitely around 20 police officers,” says the passer-by, who was surprised by this spectacular operation. The Viennese officers then forced the two occupants of the vehicle – it had Ukrainian license plates – to get out and immediately arrested the two suspects.
According to the witness, the police officers found a Colt AR-15 assault rifle in the trunk of the car. In the military version, this weapon is known as the M16, in the 25-round magazine of the gas-operated loader there are cartridges of caliber .222, that is the NATO caliber.
The Vienna police have not yet been able or unwilling to say why two suspects are out and about in Vienna-Leopoldstadt with an AR15 assault rifle that fires at a rate of 25 rounds per minute.
An eyewitness to the police action is certain: “The two men are guaranteed to have been observed before, otherwise it would not be possible for so many police officers to suddenly make this access in concert.”
The eXXpress will continue to report on the developments in this case.
