Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced a humanoid robot called Optimus at AI Day 2021. At first, many observers thought it was a marketing gimmick, but now thousands of these robots will soon be used in Tesla factories. The first prototype will be presented next Friday. According to the company, production is scheduled to start in 2023.
The robots, which are 1.77 meters tall and weigh 56 kilograms, are supposed to do “boring or dangerous work”, the company explains. In order to implement the plan promptly, Tesla is currently looking for numerous engineers.
However, the bots should not only be used in the factory, but ultimately also in the private sector. Tesla founder Musk himself assumes that sooner or later the bots will also develop their own personality and be a kind of friend for people. A development that is very reminiscent of the science fiction film “I.Robot”.
