In the group stage of the Europa League this fall, Sturm Graz will face strong but not overpowering opponents. In the draw for the second most important UEFA club competition on Friday in Istanbul, the players from Graz, who were placed fourth, were placed in Group F with Lazio Rom, Feyenoord Rotterdam and Midtjylland from the Danish Superliga. The first match day is September 8th, the group phase will be completed by November 3rd.
Sturm’s sports director Andreas Schicker was happy about a “very attractive group”. The Romans, fifth in Serie A last season, are traded as favourites. The Italian squad includes prominent names such as striker Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. “If I only take the market values, all three teams are above us,” emphasized Schicker on Sky.
Coach Christian Ilzer was also satisfied with the “top group”, just like last year. “We can look forward to wonderful, very atmospheric games. I’m sure there’s something for every Sturm fan,” he said.
