After Education Minister Martin Polaschek (ÖVP) announced that corona-infected teachers who do not feel any symptoms will be allowed to teach with a mask from autumn (eXXpress reported), Vienna is once again interfering.
While the turquoise-green government continues to try to enforce uniform regulations throughout Austria, Vienna is again opting for stricter regulations. Education director Heinrich Himmer (SPÖ) announced on Tuesday that he would also stick to the special path in public schools: “And that’s why we will continue on the path of security there in Vienna, namely with the teachers who are in the state service. And there, too, it will not be possible to use it in the classroom from autumn, even if you are symptom-free.”
This means: Infected teachers and students, whether they have symptoms or not, have to stay at home – and are not allowed to enter the schools. Because the primary goal is to be able to keep the schools open. And without these measures, the declared goal cannot be achieved. “If many fail again, protection for everyone else is not guaranteed,” says Himmer. On August 15, the town hall wants to send a decree with security measures to the schools.
