“Does it never stop?” Many eXXpress readers ask the City of Vienna and its Mayor Michael Ludwig’s mask special route. Apparently not, considering the advertising measures of the city’s health association in Vienna.
There, the mask is advertised with the star infectiologist Christoph Wenisch from the Klinik Favoriten in a promotional video. Specifically, you should also wear them on vacation (!). “My name is Christoph Wenisch and I wear the mask because I’m on vacation and not sick,” says the doctor on behalf of the camera.
Apparently, the Viennese want to be enjoined to wear masks on vacation, even though masks are no longer compulsory in the rest of Austria. Vienna’s Corona-Sonderweg drives strange style blossoms again and again. In June, for example, the introduction of a “partial mask requirement” in pharmacies caused a shitstorm for City Councilor Hacker (SPÖ).
Paradox: You don’t have to use a mask to buy cough syrup, tablets or other medicines in the pharmacy. But as soon as you want to be tested for Corona, Viennese pharmacies say: Masks on!
TV doctor Dr. Marcus Franz commented at the time: “Nothing exposes the absurdity of certain measures better than the partial mask requirement – a real masterpiece of the Austrian health bureaucracy”. Franz is reminded of the surreal stories of Franz Kafka and Fritz von Herzmanovsky-Orlandos. Here, too, it is best to simply marvel without asking the question of meaning.
However, it seems as if the city officials do not understand that the Viennese want nothing to do with the mask when on vacation. Rather, you should also wear the FFP2 mouthguard during the most relaxing time of the year – at least when Dr. Wenisch and Co goes…
