Terrorist alert in Denmark: Several victims after shots in a shopping center

A man opened fire in the Fields shopping center. The police have sent massive reinforcements. Copenhagen Mayor Sophie H. Andersen was appalled: “We don’t yet know exactly how many people are injured or dead, but it’s very serious.”

The police were in action with a large contingent. Field’s is a large shopping center in the relatively new district of Ørestad in the south of Copenhagen. An eyewitness told broadcaster DR that he heard three or four very loud bangs while he was in a store with his family. Then other people ran into the store and reported shots, after which he and his family fled through an emergency exit, the man said.

“You didn’t know what was happening. Suddenly chaos broke out everywhere,” 20-year-old Emilie Jeppesen told the Jyllands-Posten. Her friend Astrid Kofoed Jørgensen said: “Everyone in the restaurant was sent to the kitchen, then we sat there and we could hear three or four gunshots.”

The large multi-purpose hall Royal Arena is also nearby. A sold-out concert by British singer Harry Styles was planned there on Sunday.

“We are at the scene, shots have been fired and several people have been hit,” police said. Those who are still in the building should wait for the police to arrive. All other people should stay away from the area.

When the first shots were fired, more than a hundred people ran out of the mall, Danish media reported, citing eyewitnesses.

Several people were hit by the shots. It was initially unclear how many were injured and whether there were any deaths.

The police have since arrested one person. No further information could be given at the moment, the police tweeted in the Danish capital.
