The Austrians do not believe in Kiev’s victory in the Ukraine war and expect the fighting to continue in the coming year. Only 19 percent believe that the Ukraine war will end this year. 68 percent state that it will take longer. When asked whether Ukraine had a military chance against Russia, 61 percent of respondents answered no and 17 percent yes.
This was the result of a survey by the opinion research institute OGM for the “Kurier”. According to her, the Austrians are not particularly worried about the spread of the war beyond Ukraine. Only 22 percent believe that after Ukraine, Russia also wants to attack the Baltic EU and NATO countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
39 percent see the conquest of the eastern provinces and securing a land connection to the Crimean Peninsula, which has already been occupied and annexed in violation of international law, as the aggressor’s war aim, while 27 percent assume that Russia wants to conquer the entire neighboring country.
50 percent of respondents find the fact that Ukraine “should be given candidate status” completely or somewhat wrong and 45 percent very or somewhat right. The question was asked before the decision was made. The fluctuation range of the survey, conducted online between June 20 and 23, was given as 3.1 percentage points.
