On Tuesday, City Councilor Peter Hanke said during the Vienna City Council’s question time that an active and transparent information policy is fundamentally important to him and that the City of Vienna even exceeds the Media Transparency Act.
According to Sachslehner, Hanke refuses to “optimize the content of the annual report of Stadtkommunikation or to publicly present advertisements from the last ten years that are not subject to reporting”. Hanke put it down to “an unbelievable amount of effort”, which is hardly manageable and the benefit is hardly in relation to the effort.
“The allegedly so transparent information policy of the City of Vienna is therefore obviously just smoke and mirrors,” concludes Sachslehner. A fact check by the news magazine “Profil” together with Ö1 recently revealed that the city of Vienna spent 57 percent more on advertising than announced. “In the end, almost 32 million euros were spent in 2021. And to reduce the budget to 20 million euros, contrary to what City Councilor Hanke said,” says the ÖVP General Secretary. It is clear to the municipal councilor of the Vienna People’s Party that there is a need for more transparency in the advertisements of the city of Vienna.
