A rare event can be observed from Earth in the coming nights. Five planets can be recognized with the naked eye. The celestial bodies Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Saturn appear as if on a string of pearls. This optical phenomenon is referred to as a “planet parade”.
The last time all five of these planets appeared simultaneously in the night sky was in 2004, the year Facebook was founded and three years before the release of the first iPhone.
Go to bed late or get up early to see the spectacle, as the planetary parade can be seen about 45-60 minutes before sunrise on clear mornings through the end of the month. As June sees some of the earliest sunrises of the year, that means before five in the morning! According to “AccuWeather.com”, the phenomenon should be best seen in the sky from today, Tuesday, until June 24th.
And astronomy fans should seize the opportunity: The next planetary parade will not take place again until September 2040 – that is in 18 years!
