In an interview with the US television network NBC, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Beskov made it clear that the execution of the two American soldiers who have fallen into Russian captivity cannot be ruled out. “I can’t guarantee anything. It depends on the investigation,” he said dryly.
eXXpress reported last week that two former US soldiers, Alexander Drueke (37) and Andy Huynh (29), were arrested near Kharkiv. The US State Department on June 16 said it was ready to engage with Russia regarding US citizens who participated in anti-Russian activities in Ukraine. It again strongly advised Americans not to travel to Ukraine to fight in the war.
The two Americans would not be the first to meet this fate: two Britons and a Moroccan are awaiting execution in a Russian prison in eastern Ukraine. They had been sentenced to death by a people’s court in Donetsk.
