Pity! Lucas Auer just missed out on the podium in the second DTM race at Imola. The Tyrolean was still out on Saturday. Today, Sunday, Auer took fourth place in the Mercedes-AMG GT3. Ricardo Feller (Audi) from Switzerland took the win. Nevertheless, Lucas Auer was able to move up to fourth place in the overall standings after his retirement on Saturday. The Austrian DTM driver is now 20 points behind leader Sheldon van der Linde. The South African finished fifth on Sunday.
In the sixth race of the season, Auer fought for his third place on the podium until the last lap. but then he was overtaken by the German Marco Wittmann. “I made a mistake in the chicane and he took advantage of it. That annoys me beyond measure. On the other hand, we just weren’t good enough all weekend. I have to be satisfied with fourth place now. Because every point is extremely important this year,” Auer said in a statement from his management.
Philipp Eng (BMW) scored points after being twelfth the day before and was sixth this time and is twelfth overall. For Porsche driver Thomas Preining, who was fourth on Saturday, the race ended early after a crash with the Swiss Rolf Ineichen, he is 15th in the overall standings. The next two rounds of the DTM will take place in two weeks (2nd and July 3) at the Norisring in Nuremberg.
