The Upper Austrian governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) also finds harsh words in the home of Voestalpine for the failure of the climate minister. “The strong industrial location of Upper Austria requires rapid clarification of the planned further procedure of the federal government to directly ensure the gas supply for companies and households,” he says. Securing the gas supply in the here and now must be the focus from now on. “The Ministry of Energy must focus on the current situation and not on energy scenarios for the next 20 years,” Stelzer clarifies.
“The income of tens of thousands of households in Upper Austria depends on securing the natural gas supply. We are therefore demanding that the Ministry of Energy focus on the supply problem and explain how to proceed after today’s first reports of a drop in supplies from Russia. In any case, one thing is already clear: If the gas supply to Austria breaks off today, we will soon have mass unemployment,” warns Upper Austria’s governor in conclusion.
