The internal IT network of the German Greens has been the victim of unknown hackers several times in the past few weeks. As the “Spiegel” now reports, there was a massive cyber attack on the internal platform on June 13th. Access to the “green network” is therefore severely restricted, as a party spokeswoman explained. However, this is only a temporary security measure. During the attack, several e-mails are said to have been forwarded to an external server and thus leaked. There was no “major data outflow”.
Politicians use the “green network” to exchange ideas internally about coalition conditions and party positions. The spokeswoman says that the e-mail accounts of leading Green Party politicians in particular have been targeted by hackers. The party filed a criminal complaint, the Federal Criminal Police Office is now investigating. This announced that it could not be ruled out that state actors were behind the attack.
