Several shots broke the otherwise quiet mood on Leopoldauer Strasse in Vienna Floridsdorf around noon on Saturday. Immediately afterwards, the police received a number of calls from alarmed residents, the officers reacted immediately and cordoned off a large area around a municipal building from which the shots had come.
The source of the shots was quickly found out: They came from a Turkish wedding party! Fortunately, it was not an escalation of violence, but an exaggerated act of joy: Apparently, guests had shot several times in the air with a blank pistol to cheer the bridal couple.
The situation calmed down quickly: the police recorded the data of the guests concerned – and the celebration should have consequences for the merry-go-round. Shooting from pistols – both real firearms and alarm pistols – is prohibited in inner-city areas. Accordingly, the shooter or shooters must expect a penalty.
