“The Wiener Weg means a massive additional burden for the Viennese population. The hefty price increase for district heating in Vienna will affect around 440,000 Viennese households and will almost double the previous prices,” said the ÖVP Secretary General on Wednesday.
The fact is that the district heating belongs to the Wiener Stadtwerke and is therefore owned by the City of Vienna – Mayor Ludwig can therefore not shift the responsibility. The price increase is a political declaration of bankruptcy by the red-pink city government. “Because that’s not how you can deal with your own population,” says Laura Sachslehner on the price increases for district heating in Vienna.
The eXXpress had previously reported that many Viennese can cancel their vacation – and also have to decide between eating or heating. On average, 45 euros more are due due to the price increase for district heating – 540 euros per year!
“While district heating prices are being doubled, the rent for the SPÖ party headquarters on Löwelstrasse has even been reduced in recent years. In addition, the city government is spending 12 million euros more on advertising than budgeted. In addition, one must not forget that the Vienna state government has already increased the fees for water, waste and sewage by a total of 50 million euros this year,” said Sachslehner.
