Martin Hinteregger has always been someone who didn’t mince his words. Only recently in an interview with the “Krone” he said that Eintracht Frankfurt had informed him in late autumn that he should leave in the summer. This year “a lot has broken down.” Hinteregger became a crowd favorite at Frankfurt from the start. Many did not want to believe that the ÖFB team defender wanted to leave the club. In any case, the relationship with the management level of Eintracht is anything but ideal at the moment.
After the statements, sports director Markus Krösche told “Sport Bild” that such statements could not be understood: “We cannot understand Martin’s statements, and doing it that way was certainly not the smartest way.” The kickers are currently on summer vacation. After that, according to Krösche, there should be a debate: “When he’s back after the summer break, we sat down for a clear debate, which will also resolve it. Then the topic is over and it goes on. I don’t hold grudges.”
In any case, Hinteregger still has a contract with Frankfurt until 2024. After the Europa League victory, Frankfurt will be in the group stage of the Champions League next season. Eintracht is also planning with Hinteregger. “The fact is: Martin is a very important player for us, he played a big part in the title,” emphasized the sporting director of Frankfurt.
The Austrian national player was traded again and again at Frankfurt as a candidate for sale. Due to the corona pandemic, the association has to generate income. Now there seems to be a trend reversal in the cause. Hinteregger should stay with Frankfurt.
