Robert Lewandowski will not extend his current contract with Bayern until 2023. That much is certain. The top scorer has already informed the club officials. However, Bayern insist on adhering to the term. Lewandowski, however, caused a stir with recent statements that he could not imagine “any further cooperation”. The Pole wants to leave Bayern this summer: “My story at Bayern is over. I know that the transfer is the best solution for both sides,” said the goalscorer in Warsaw on Monday.
Robert Lewandowski is linked with a move to FC Barcelona. Apparently Lewandowski and his advisor are ready to pull out all the stops. The cause degenerated into a veritable mud fight. The “image” revealed that there is a FIFA paragraph, according to which players can terminate their contract after the age of 28. Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, is familiar with this paragraph. Lewandowski may take legal action. But no player has dared to do that before.
If Lewandowski actually makes use of the clause, he would have to compensate Bayern with his salary from the last year of the contract (estimated at 24 million euros). FC Barcelona offers more. The Catalans would put €32m on the table for the Pole. The striker star would move within a legal framework. In such a case, Lewandowski is not threatened with a ban. But how good such an approach would be for his reputation remains to be seen. His chances of being re-elected as world footballer would definitely not increase as a result.
