After a two-year Corona break, a race took place again on the notorious “Isle of Man”. But joy quickly turned to sadness, because Mark Purslow died at the age of only 29. The Welshman had an accident during qualifying on Wednesday. This was announced by the organizers. Before that, he drove the fastest lap at 194.46 km/h on the TT Mountain Course.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Mark Purslow following an incident in qualifying tonight. All our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones,” the organizer wrote on Wednesday. The accident happened after 8:00 p.m. local time on the Ballagarey section of the road. Organizers further commented, “Mark made his debut on the TT Mountain Course at the 2015 Manx Grand Prix where he won the Lightweight race on his debut.” In 2017 Purslow switched to the Isle of Man TT Races.
The Isle of Man is considered a very dangerous track. A driver had a serious accident during training on Tuesday evening. But Dave Moffitt could be taken to a hospital with a rescue helicopter. According to official reports, his condition is “serious but stable.” Since 1907, a total of 259 people have died racing on the island.
