It is not considered absolutely necessary for everyone. Nevertheless, today, Thursday, Johan Eliasch was re-elected FIS President at the congress in Milan. In June 2021 he took over the post from the late Swiss Gianfranco Kaspar. At first, everything pointed to a clear affair, as the billionaire had no opponent. The controversial Briton with Swedish roots had to receive at least 63 out of 126 votes. In the end, Eliasch got 70 votes. In the end he was able to prevail. At the request of several delegates, a secret ballot was set by ballot. But the big nations did not agree at all with the re-election.
According to “blick”, the big ski nations left the hall in anger and in protest. The Croatian delegate Vedran Pavlek, who was not satisfied with the question, left the room in protest before the vote, several others followed. There was already speculation that Eliasch could fail because of the absolute majority. The decision-makers of the big nations are not on the side of the incumbent FIS President. Nevertheless, he will remain in office for another four years.
“We need change, we need change,” the FIS boss reacted to the trust. “This is a voting result that allows us to move further in this direction. I’m looking forward to it,” the billionaire said of his re-election. Before Eliasch was elected, Peter Schröcks Nadel (80) was thanked for his long service on the FIS Board with a standing ovation. The former ÖSV President from Tyrol will no longer be Austria’s FIS contribution as Vice President. In the further course of the meeting, ÖSV financial officer Patrick Ortlieb presented himself for the election for the new FIS board.
