Will Felix Magath continue as a coach? At least a comeback doesn’t seem out of the question. It was only on Monday that he was able to successfully complete the “mission to stay up” with Hertha. After the 0:1 home defeat against HSV, Hertha BSC was able to win 2:0 against Hamburg in the relegation second leg. This means that the club from the capital remains in the Bundesliga. Relegation is done. The club was then able to breathe a sigh of relief. Despite the successful relegation, Magath warned the club: “I can only advise them to seize the opportunity and realize that the season, even if it ended very happily, was a bad season. And it wasn’t the first bad season, it was the third in a row. That should finally be the point where you are ready to change a lot, maybe everything.”
As expected, Magath said goodbye. After Tayfun Korkut, he took over as coach at Hertha on an interim basis. In an interview with “Bild” he said: “That was our agreement from the start”. So far so good. But what’s next for “Felix Quälix”? The trainer fox does not seem averse to another comeback. “I said that I can now wait another six months and start again in March. That was meant more as a joke. But of course that has something to do with it. That’s the warmer time, you don’t freeze like that on the training ground on the sidelines,” said Magath.
But the ex-Bayern coach doesn’t seem to rule out a comeback entirely: “It’s not out of the question that I’ll reappear somewhere.” But the experienced coach did not give an exact time. Magath will probably not be short of offers after staying up with Hertha. Magath won the double with Bayern in 2005 and 2006, i.e. the championship and the DFB Cup. He later caused a sensation at VfL Wolfsburg, after initially keeping the club in the Bundesliga to celebrate the championship title a year later.
