The change to the previous emergency law (because of the corona pandemic) now allows the government to declare a state of emergency even in the event of an armed conflict in a neighboring country or a humanitarian catastrophe. In a state of emergency, the government may govern by decree or suspend the application of certain laws
Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán said the measure would give the Hungarian leadership “the opportunity to react immediately and protect Hungary and the Hungarian families by any means possible”.
He also emphasized that his new government, which was only sworn in today, Tuesday, has started work immediately because “there is a war in our neighborhood, the end of which is not yet foreseeable by anyone”. This requires immediate action. Orbán announced that he would provide information about his government’s first decisions tomorrow, Wednesday.
