In Austria there is now actually the first case monkey pox. “The laboratory result of the patient who came to us as a suspected case has confirmed that he is smallpox positive. The sequencing of which form of smallpox it is is still taking place,” said the spokeswoman for the Vienna Health Association, Nina Brenner-Küng, late on Sunday afternoon. “In all likelihood it will monkey pox be.”
The patient (35) was admitted to a clinic in Vienna-Favoriten on Sunday night with typical symptoms such as a slight fever and pustules on his face. “He’s fine so far, he’s stable. He has skin changes, he has mild flu symptoms,” said Brenner-Küng about the man’s state of health.
According to a spokesman for City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ), the patient is in the isolation ward. The sample was analyzed by the University of Veterinary Medicine.
