Since the beginning of May, there have been coordinated focal points against illegal migration and people-smuggling in all nine state police departments. Over 39,000 people were checked during a total of 910 priority actions. The Ministry of the Interior announced this at a press conference today.
In the past two weeks, more than 39,000 identity checks were carried out by more than 4,000 law enforcement officers during a total of 910 priority actions. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 182 people have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling. According to Franz Ruf, Director General for Public Safety, close cooperation with the partner countries is also important: “Smuggling is international crime with organized structures. These are exposed to additional search pressure through flexible priority checks.”
440 illegal residents were arrested under the provisions of aliens law, 61 of whom were immediately taken out of the country. In the first four months of this year, around 3,000 deportations took place, around half of which were voluntary. Social fraud was also investigated. For example, more than 1000 benefit recipients were checked during checks in basic care quarters and 78 suspected cases were identified.
