“Forget that, I stay clean, I’ve always been clean” – that’s how clearly the then FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache countered on July 23, 2017 to possible offers from the video trapper Julian Hessenthaler, who is currently in prison for serious drug crimes (not finally convicted) is in custody.
Exactly three years ago, the organizers of the coup-ready Ibiza video hustle and bustle did not show us this key point, which would show Strache quite clearly and fairly cleanly: On May 17, 2019, Austria was only allowed to see those video sequences that some left-leaning newspaper employees selected and still do have taken it out of context. Just over four minutes out of seven and a half hours of video footage…
And immediately after the perfectly staged presentation of the video, wild speculation was allowed: about drugs, about sex scenes, about alcohol excesses, etc. Only two years later did the eXXpress put an end to the untruths that at least overthrew a government and dozens of cabinet employees made them unemployed, destroyed an entire family and drove a top politician to financial ruin: In the seven and a half hours of the entire video there is no sex or drugs to be seen.
Rather, others had and have to fear that EVERYTHING that was said in the video would actually be made public: for example, Strache’s minute-long praise after his “all journalists are whores” comment for a well-known publisher. Then the story about a columnist who, according to Strache, wanted to collect millions in money for his presidential candidacy. And Strache’s mention of other major party donors shortly after the greeting on the finca veranda was strangely left unmentioned by “Spiegel”, “Süddeutsche” and “Falter” …
Today you can judge for yourself whether this video was indeed so violent that a centre-right government had to step down – or whether the staging could have been better than the content.
One thing is certain: the financiers of the project have achieved their goal. These backers are also likely to get away undetected. And maybe already planning their next coup, their next ad.
