The moderator and the guests present had not expected this. Former Colonel Mikhail Khodarenok (68) openly criticized the invasion and the government on the program and vigorously denied all reports of success. For example, rumors that morale within the Ukrainian army is bad are simply “wrong”.
It is the second time that a senior Russian military has publicly criticized Russia’s “military operation,” eXXpress reported. Ex-Colonel Chodarenok, who has 30 years of combat experience, achieved at least one thing with his criticism: this program attracted attention worldwide, not only in Russia.
Right at the beginning, Chodarenok makes you sit up and take notice: The Russian public shouldn’t take any “soothing information” when it comes to the war in Ukraine. This is becoming increasingly difficult for the country.
Several attempts by the Kremlin-loyal moderator Olga Vladimirovna Skabeevavon to throw the former military man off failed. So she asked him whether the numerous Ukrainian deserters were not indicative of the low morale within the Ukrainian army. Then Chodarenok: “No”. Rather, Ukraine’s troops would do anything to defend their homeland.
What’s more, the experienced ex-military even criticized the leadership in the Kremlin, sometimes explicitly. For example, they misjudged the extent of Western support for Ukraine. Aid from NATO is particularly dangerous: “In the near future one has to consider one million armed Ukrainians as a reality,” he warned. And: “The situation for us in that regard, frankly, is going to get worse.”
Russia’s geopolitical situation is also devastating, stated Chodarenok: “In a way, we are completely geopolitically isolated (…) this is a situation from which we have to free ourselves.”
Chodarenok is said to have warned of the high morale of the Ukrainians even before the war broke out.
