Around 600 fighters are said to have held out in the steelworks until they were given up. According to the Ukrainian government, 211 of them were taken to the town of Olenivka in the pro-Russian separatist-controlled Donetsk region. Deputy Defense Minister Anna Maljar said 53 wounded soldiers had been transferred to a hospital in the Russian-controlled city of Novoazovsk.
The Russian-backed separatists said 256 fighters from the steel mill “surrendered” – 51 of them were wounded.
