The orthopedic technician Ara Mirzaian actually makes prostheses for wounded people in his special clinic in San Diego. But suddenly an interesting order for his special clinic fluttered in.
Baby giraffe Msituni from the San Diego Zoo was born with a natural deformity of the front legs. The animal could neither stand nor suck at the mother. Mirzaian was asked if he could help the animal.
And the orthopedist was able to help the animal! “We gave the prosthesis a giraffe pattern to match the environment,” says Mirzaian. And he is proud of the achievement. “It’s the best thing I’ve done in my 30 years of professional activity,” says the researcher.
Msituni seems to fit the prosthesis well. The animal quickly reintegrated itself into the herd and shows no unusual behavior. Happy ending with giraffes!
