Odo Döschl describes how valuable, long-standing friendships are broken because some follow the media hype while others insist on using their own brains, asking questions and simply don’t want to take part. Rating: Worth reading!
A guest commentary by Odo Döschl
This time I’m writing on my own behalf, because I’m about to lose an old friend who was dear to me, because peace in my own country and the well-being of all of us are simply more important to me than the war in Ukraine. To belong to the moral authority today, one must unchecked support the Russia sanctions.
The fact that they are driving their own, hard-earned prosperity into the basement in order to continue to drive our Austria into the wall with karacho in the madness of solidarity is kindly to be accepted in order to punish the war criminal Putin! This punishment is more like a sock shot, but deeper thinking is undesirable here anyway, in order not to promptly be given the title “Putin understander”.
My pragmatic way of thinking is resented because my own well-being, that of my family and that of my country are simply more important to me than the problems of Ukraine – ergo I’m a brute, a “political border crosser”! When I asked him where was his indignation at the countless wars committed by Americans? Which, as in the case of Iraq, even lacked justification? Where they used to wipe out tens of thousands of civilians, women and children with two A-bombs? Then you promptly get the furious answer that you cannot offset one evil against the other.
So far, so bad, but with all the countless war crimes that could not be blamed on Putin, nobody thought of sanctioning the Americans. Or to expropriate the citizens in the madness of solidarity by means of hyperinflation, to swear them to a war against the USA? This is the moment when conversations are broken off in anger.
These people are just as little interested in the background of why this armed conflict came about in the first place. Dhat one could easily have prevented this disaster in eight years of negotiations! But it was not prevented because the West sworn the comedian Zelenskyj to absolute uncompromisingness and thus delivered the Ukrainian population to the knife!
Just such ways of looking at things are not en vogue, they should be avoided at all costs. It’s really sad how easily people can be stirred up, manipulated and divided. This division ruins old friendships and even families. These are by no means just stupid people, no, even highly intelligent fellow citizens unlearn their ability to criticize and think!
In their delusion they overlook how quickly a war can also take hold of our country and then these people stand in shock, crying in front of their children’s graves and the ruins of their houses! Then at the latest they will understand their ignorance imposed by politicians and the media, but much too late for all of us! Then the point is finally passed where you can still save something.
