Calvin Klein’s Mother’s Day campaign failed miserably. The US underwear manufacturer apparently wanted to be particularly original and contemporary. His post showed different mothers, including a pregnant transgender man. It was criticized for that.
The underwear brand’s 22 million Instagram followers couldn’t get over it at all. Alongside the Instagram post, the fashion designer wrote: “Today, in support of women and mothers around the world, we shed light on the realities of new families.” The relevant caption read: “Roberto will give birth to his and Erika’s son Noah in the next few days.”
Many commentators apparently have no use for transgender people: “Men cannot get pregnant,” they said, or “Women give birth, not men”. There have also been calls to “unfollow” the brand. Individual social media users expressed criticism from a different point of view: the brand manufactures its products in countries where there are no LGBTQ rights.
