Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) was recently allowed to act as godfather – together with interior minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP), cathedral priest Toni Faber and police chief Gerhard Pürstl. The four men christened the new police boat “Wenia” together, which is intended to make Vienna’s waters safer in the future.
But the event didn’t go quite so smoothly – which is currently causing amusement on Twitter. The ten meter long boat was still scratched during the festive christening ceremony – by the mayor himself.
Whether on purpose or by mistake, Michael Ludwig accelerated too early. The problem: the boat was still tied to the jetty. So it didn’t get very far. It crashed back immediately – which was not without consequences. The freshly painted police boat got a scratch from it. The boat is still operational.
