Ukrainian troops have landed a major blow against Russia, ousting Putin’s army from a strategically important Kharkiv suburb. According to information from the Pentagon, this strengthens their position in the defense of Ukraine’s second-largest city and at the same time could weaken Russia’s supply chain in Donbass.
But after the reconquest of the area, there were once again clear indications of war crimes.
A number of dead civilians were found in the bombed-out apartments and burned-out vehicles in the Ukrainian village – according to reports, they have been lying there for several days. Memories of Bucha and Borodyanka were awakened by eyewitnesses who described the landscape around Kharkiv as an “open-air graveyard”.
But not only the bodies of civilians were discovered: in the village of Staryi Salti, 50 kilometers from Kharkiv, a grisly find was also made that could be a “message” to Vladimir Putin: the lifeless bodies of several soldiers – apparently Russians – were found “draped” in a Z pattern. The Z stands for “za pobedu” (“For Victory”) and is considered the symbol of invasion for Russia.
