64,440 names were immortalized on the Shoah memorial wall in Ostarrichi Park in Vienna. This heart project of a Holocaust survivor was launched on November 10, 2021 and is dedicated to the victims of National Socialism. 32 representatives of the ÖVP read each of the names out loud on Tuesday to commemorate these victims. The People’s Party wants to send a clear signal against “Nazi terror”.
November 10th is also the 83rd day of remembrance of the Reichspogromnacht. That night, Jewish men and women were murdered, Jewish businesses were looted, and synagogues were burned.
During the Nazi regime, people were reduced to numbers and their identities stolen. By reading the names aloud, they are perceived again as valuable, distinctive people.
