“Since Ukraine’s independence, no Ukrainian politician has managed to unite the country like Putin did – against Russia’s interests and against his own,” Firtash said in an interview with the “Ö1-Morgenjournal”.
“In eastern Ukraine, most people speak Russian, and Putin is now mostly bombing eastern Ukraine and killing people who were more pro-Russian,” Firtash said. Reason enough for the Ukrainian oligarch to spend a lot of money – and donate 9.7 million dollars (equivalent to 9.2 million euros) to equip and maintain the Ukrainian army.
And Firtash is not alone: According to the Forbes ranking list, Rinat Akhmetov, president of the East Ukrainian football club Shakhtar Donetsk, even donated 38 million dollars to support the national defense. Oleksandr and Halyna Gereg from the group of companies “Epizentr” donated tens of millions of dollars to the army. Yuri Anatolyovych Kossyuk heads the largest agro-industrial company MHP and advises President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He donated $12 million to defend his homeland.
