The United States and Ukraine largely agree on what Ukraine needs to fight the Russian army and what the US can provide, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. Blinken told the German Bundestag’s Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on Tuesday that he had discussed the need with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expressly welcomed Germany’s announcement that it would support Ukraine with anti-aircraft tanks. Germany is “a great friend and ally” of the US, said Austin after an international meeting at the US air force base in Ramstein, Rhineland-Palatinate. “Heaven and earth” will be moved to help Ukraine.
The transfer of the 50 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks is a “significant” step that will bring important additional capabilities to Ukraine. The US and its allies stand together to support Ukraine in the face of Russia’s war of aggression, stressed Austin.
