At Mercedes, nerves are on edge. No wonder when you look at the results of the still young Formula 1 season. While it was still enough for third and fourth place in Bahrain, it didn’t matter at all in Saudi Arabia. Russell was fifth, Hamilton only tenth. Clearly not enough for the racing team, which is otherwise so spoiled by success. Also in Australia they missed the podium places. In Imola there seems to be a continuation of the black series. Hamilton was eliminated in the second part of qualifying for the sprint race in Imola (Italy).
The seven-time world champion starts from 13th place. His teammate George Russell fared not much better. A situation that Mercedes does not know. For the first time in ten years, neither of the two cars made it into the last qualifying section. Then there were heated discussions between Mercedes boss Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton. However, according to information from “Bild”, it should not have been a dispute between the two. It was just an exchange on strategy. The seven-time world champion and his manager were annoyed that Red Bull and Ferrari were once again left behind.
The problem might be with the tires. Ferrari and Red Bull only need one lap to bring the tires up to temperature. Mercedes, on the other hand, needs two to three laps. It is also a fact: Hamilton really wants the eighth world title, which would make him the sole record holder. The Brit currently holds seven titles, just as many as Michael Schumacher.
