Many dream of the perfect partner with whom we want to share our whole life. Togetherness in happiness and harmony. But relationships and their purpose have changed. While couple relationships used to be more of a union of convenience, shaped by the traditional distribution of roles, there is a strong social change, especially with regard to partnerships. Nowadays, a relationship is primarily about the two partners themselves, the focus is on the need for autonomy. Today, the quality of the relationship has to compete with the length of the relationship.
Generation Y has become known, among other things, as the “generation unable to relate”. We change our partners as quickly as our job. According to the motto “binding is not binding”, the desire for independence is very pronounced. According to scientists, there is definitely a great longing for the classic, stable, sustainable partnership. Only the demands on a relationship, both on what it should achieve and the way it is managed, have changed significantly. The partner should inspire your own ego, be increasingly perfect and fit into your life concept as well as possible. The feeling that there could always be something that makes life better is more present than ever. Partnerships have become part of the optimization craze.
In the new issue of “eXXpress Life” Carina Schwarz talks to the psychotherapist with a focus on love, relationships, sex therapy and self-esteem, author and philosopher Prof. Dr. Monika Wogrolly about this phenomenon, among other things. We address questions such as: What does it take for a well-functioning relationship? To what extent has the relationship model changed? Are phase-in partners more realistic than marriage? Have fears of commitment increased in recent years and if so, how are they manifested? And: Does the age of online dating affect us more than we realize? You can see that and much more in the new episode “eXXpress Life”.
