The Carinthian Derby was marked by two crisis clubs. Before the duel at the WAC, Austria from Klagenfurt only celebrated one win this calendar year. Things aren’t going much better at the WAC. The Dutt-Elf lost four games in a row. The Klagenfurt got off to a real dream start and took the lead in the 4th minute. Greil served Anderson with a through ball. Anderson was able to prevail against Lochoshvili and pocketed the ball to give the Carinthians the lead. The WAC then tried to quickly equalize. The Pacult-Elf, in turn, switched to the switching game.
After 16 minutes, Wolfsberg equalized. Liendl was left alone in the penalty area, calmly took the ball and, with the help of the pole, put the ball in the Klagenfurt goal to make it 1-1. But the joy about the equalizer didn’t last long, especially since Jarits immediately made it 2-1 after a counterattack. As a result, only the WAC played. In the 22nd minute, a Liendl cross slipped through and Veratschnig just barely missed the ball.
Little changed in the second half either. Klagenfurt defended the lead, WAC made the game. But the home side were lucky in the 62nd minute when the ball bounced from Taferner to Cvetko after losing the ball. This took off from 25 meters. His shot bounced back off the bar. The Wolfsbergers could hardly develop any compelling chances in the second section. The WAC invested a lot, but in the end it wasn’t enough. The Pacult-Elf proved to be the more efficient team and was able to get through the 2:1 victory in the end.
