Due to the contaminated food from a fruit and vegetable supplier, a patient in a hospital in southern Hesse, Germany, is said to have been poisoned by eating the food served there and died as a result. According to the “Welt am Sonntag”, the newspaper is to present an expert report from the Hessian task force for food safety – in addition to serious hygienic deficiencies and a lack of controls, it even reports rat droppings and mold in the production facility.
Between October 2021 and January 2022, three other people are said to have fallen ill through the food from the southern Hessian company. Two of the sick people are said to have also been infected during a hospital stay.
According to the report, sliced cucumbers are the reason for the infections – these were served in salads in the hospital.
After an examination in the laboratory, a genetic match of the bacteria in the patients and those in the company was found.
