At around 7:45 p.m., the 44-year-old resident British citizen and her son (22) were in the shared apartment in Graz. Also in the kitchen was the woman’s 45-year-old ex-husband, also a Syrian citizen.
The mother was preparing dinner and cutting vegetables with a kitchen knife. When her ex-husband left the kitchen, the 22-year-old Syrian became violent towards his mother. In the argument, the son may have come to the kitchen knife. The woman fought off the attack and suffered severe cuts on her hands. The son only let go of his mother when the father became aware of the kitchen dispute and pulled him away from his mother. The woman was taken to Graz Regional Hospital by the Red Cross with serious injuries. Syrian was arrested. Why he attacked his own mother is still unclear – he will be questioned today.
