The long-term short-time work bonus, which can be applied for from April 11th, can bring a “treat” for the bank account. All people who have been on short-time work for a long time – i.e. at least ten months – and for at least one day in December 2021 and whose social security contribution basis is a maximum of 2775 euros are to be supported.
The bonus for long-term short-time work primarily affects the catering, aviation and leisure sectors. Labor Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) is pleased to be able to support those affected with the bonus. “Especially in the hospitality industry, in aviation, in the field of sports and leisure, as well as in cultural institutions, employees were on short-time work for a very long time during the pandemic. As a result, these people were affected by corresponding losses in income. With the payment of the bonus decided by the federal government, we are pursuing one goal: people who were particularly affected by the short-time work caused by the pandemic should be relieved. It is important to me that we create a balance, so to speak, because the people affected had a lower income for a long time through no fault of their own,” said Kocher in a broadcast.
What is exciting about the requirements for receiving the long-term short-time work bonus is that those affected must have been on short-time work for at least one day in December of the past year. The Federal Ministry of Labor justifies this on its website with the lockdown. “It is assumed that employees whose employers did not have to apply for short-time work during the lockdown in November and December 2021 will also be on short-time work less often in the coming months. When determining the provisions for the long-term short-time work bonus, the social partners, i.e. also the statutory interest groups for employees, were significantly involved,” says the Federal Ministry on its website.
The long-term short-time work bonus can be applied for from April 11 to December 31, 2022. The application is on the website of the Federal Ministry of Labour possible. First of all, this takes place via an authenticated electronic path. From June it should also be possible to apply by post. In any case, the application must be made in person. The bonus of 500 euros will be transferred directly to the account.
