Just a week ago there were 70 million cans on hand in Germany. According to the Ministry of Health, there have even been seven million more in the past few days.
The shopping spree in detail: 27.4 million cans from the manufacturer Biontech, 40.2 million from the company Moderna, 1.3 million cans from Johnson & Johnson and 700,000 from Novavax. The government does not provide any information about the costs, citing the trade secret, reports “Welt am Sonntag”.
Incidentally, during the course of the pandemic, our neighbors received 172 million doses of the vaccine. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 63.3 million Germans are now basic immunized, which corresponds to 76 percent of the population. But the vaccination curve is flattening out.
237,000 doses were administered in the past week. If things continue like this, the country would need six million doses by September. 71 million doses of the various Covid vaccines are too many. Explosive: By the end of the summer, 68 million of them will have expired – and will therefore be unusable.
But that’s not all – more is on the way! As of March 18, the total doses ordered since the beginning of the pandemic is 677.4 million units. On December 16 of the previous year, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) spoke of a vaccine shortage and announced that he would order 92 million additional doses from Biontech and Moderna. In the end, this “panic purchase” even increased by 123.4 million.
