The team of the Austrian Embassy in Ukraine will return to Kyiv from the branch office in Uzhhorod. The Chancellor announced this during his solidarity visit – the eXXpress is there live. For security reasons, at the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and in view of the spreading Russian aggression, the embassy staff were relocated to the embassy’s branch office in Uzhhorod in western Ukraine.
Nehammer emphasizes: “Now that the situation around Kyiv has stabilized somewhat, the team from the Austrian embassy will resume its work in the Ukrainian capital. With this, we express our full support for Ukraine at this very difficult time.” In addition, the Chancellor thanked the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the other ministries involved, above all the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Defence, “for the great commitment over the past few weeks in Ukraine under the most difficult conditions”.
Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg adds: “It is a central task of our embassies to provide the best possible support for Austrians abroad, especially in emergency situations. I am pleased that the security situation now allows the embassy to fully carry out this task again from the Ukrainian capital.” And: “We stand with the Ukrainians who are currently the victims of unprecedented military aggression.”
